I still fondly remember getting my first trick pack of cards from Hamley's toy shop after seeing a magician demonstrating magic with them.

The trick pack of cards are called "Svengali" cards and it's possible to do some really great magic using them after only learning some basic handling. They do, however, require some patience to learn, because if you drop the pack- there's a lot of setting up to do! These cards cannot be examined but, if correctly handled do not arose suspicion.

Another great trick pack of cards are called tapered cards( or stripper deck) which require slightly more subtle handling and can enable some great magic- these can be examined and even handled by the spectator without giving anything away, in fact they can be used for playing games just like regular cards.

Trick packs of cards are fine for performing magic but they are not a replacement for practice- they just allow stronger magic with less sleight of hand and are often the introduction to special cards used by some magicians.
